Hawaii Caving Travelogue 2010
From the Desert of Kau and Beyond
A chance to visit Pohue Bay is a welcome excuse for a non-caving day. The bay is a natural wonder, and has a history as a very early site for use on the island. Although the land around the bay is privately owned, a public access route is maintained via historic trails. The site and its environs is a major candidate for conservation efforts, and is also the focus of developers dreams.

Explosive actitity in tubes and trenches littered the landscape with artifacts of the flow.

Early use of the land is very much in evidence.

The bay afforded both a landing site and a good place for habitation. Nearby fresh water seeps made this a desirable location.

Our crew spent a lazy day resting, swiming and investigating.

The old trails are still the in use.
