Ceris Jones

Ceris Jones was born in York, England in 1956 and traveled extensively abroad with her family in the Royal Air Force. She studied at Wrexham Art College, Foundation Course, 1978-1979; Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Polytechnic BA (Hons.) in Fine Art, 1979-82; Leeds Polytechnic, PGCE in Art & Design, 1982-83. From September 1983, she has taught Art & Design to GCSE level at Broughton High School, Preston. In 1994, she became a Founder Member of the International Society of Speleological Art.

As a figure artist, some of her work is inspired through her interest in caving - the caver preparing for and being actively involved in his environment - the world of caves and rock. The caver's psychology fascinates her. Personally, she finds the caving environment a hostile and frightening one. When she caves, she has episodes of sheer panic and overwhelming claustrophobia. Observations are usually recorded in sketchbooks, using pencil, sometimes charcoal.
